In 2017, we took a leap of faith and took over a small, outdated German butchery in Dirkie Uys Street. While our path previously led through the aviation and wildlife industries, the passion for the meat industry remained deeply ingrained in our souls. Having grown up in butcheries, the love for the trade was instilled in us from a young age, and after years of mastering the craft, Vans Meat Market finally opened its doors on 1 May 2017.

We started this adventure with our core team—Sybil, our head of production, and Essie, our front-lady and "jack of all trades." We worked our butts off —no, seriously— to build this brand, and by the grace of God and the dedication of an incredible team, Vans began to flourish.

Our journey hasn't been without its hurdles. In 2021, a sudden change in location forced us to move, but we were blessed with the opportunity to trade inside the "Porra Grocer" for three years. As we continued to grow, we eventually found ourselves needing even more room to serve you better. After moving twice in just three years—a crazy adventure in itself—we have finally settled into our new home. We are so happy in our light, airy, and spacious shop; it is truly a blessing, even with the few hiccups we’ve experienced along the way!

If you don't know us yet, we take pride in the fact that nothing is bought in. We make everything literally from scratch. From our cold meats and viennas to our boerewors, bacon, and traditional German products—you name it, we make it right here.
